A Macau resident carrying five homing pigeons crossed the Gongbei checkpoint on Tuesday but was stopped by customs officers for failing to declare their entry into the mainland.
A statement from Gongbei Customs yesterday said that the man, surnamed Chao, took the five pigeons weighing a total 2.2 kilogrammes in a carrier bag and went through customs without declaring or passing through the luggage security check.
The statement said that each pigeon was wrapped in a white cloth and each had a tag on its leg.
