A local man addicted to computer games has been arrested for assaulting his mother with a wooden chair, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Choi, the suspect is a 29-year-old man surnamed Lou. He told the police that he is an IT apprentice. The 54-year-old mother’s surname was not released. She told the police she is a casino worker. Both are locals.

According to Choi, after work the suspect’s mother returned to the family home in Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues on Wednesday at around midnight. When she got in, she urged her son, who was playing computer games in his bedroom, to wash the many dirty clothes lying around

Unhappy, Lou threw the air con remote control on to the floor before putting the clothes into the washing machine. When removing the clothes from the washing machine later, he threw his mother’s clothes on to the floor and trod on them many times.

When his mother realised what was going on, they started quarrelling. The suspect then attacked his mother with a wooden chair, resulting in multiple injuries such as contusions and injuries to her right wrist, left hand and left side of her ribcage, as well as a distal radius fracture, according to Choi.

Lou felt guilty after assaulting his mother and took her to hospital for medical treatment
The attending doctor reported the case to the Public Security Police (PSP). As Lou realised that the hospital had transferred the case to the police, he went to a police station where he claimed that the assault was due to his addiction to playing computer games causing him to easily lose control.

The victim told the police that her son is addicted to computer games. She also said that she had been attacked by her son several times due to his addiction. She also told the police she was slightly injured in the previous attacks. She also said that she kept silent as she did not want to affect her son’s future, Choi added.

The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further investigation.
