The government’s new integrated system for detecting vehicular traffic offences will come into use at seven busy junctions across different districts on the peninsula next Monday (April 1), while the system is slated to come into use at another seven junctions also on the peninsula in July, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) said in a statement yesterday.

The new system, which will replace the current one which only detects the offence of jumping the red light signal, is also able to simultaneously detect speeding, in addition to the current function, according to the statement.

The statement said that since the new system detecting traffic offences came into use at two junctions – the junction of Avenida da Praia Grande and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (commonly known as San Ma Lou), and the junction of Avenida da Praia Grande and Avenida de D. João IV, the bureau has installed or will install the new system at another 14 junctions.
