A local property agent cheated his boss and a local businessman out of over HK$4 million by claiming he had paid a developer the commission and service fees required for buying 11 deluxe flats on the mainland, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Chan identified the suspect as a 49-year-old surnamed Ng, who at the time of the alleged crime worked as a manager of a property agency in Taipa. He told the police that he now works for another property agency in Taipa. The businessman is 47-year-old local resident whose surname was not released.
According to Chan, the incident happened in 2014 when he worked as a manager of a sub-branch of a property agency in Taipa. The local businessman planned to buy 11 deluxe flats for HK$70 million on the mainland. Ng asked him to pay HK$3.44 million in service fees to the developer in advance. As the victim believed him, he paid the money. Then Ng forged a number of transaction documents and receipts and collected 1.28 million yuan (1.54 million patacas) in purported commission, paid on two occasions, from his company in the same year.
