As the rapid development of Macau’s economy brings multiple job offers, local enterprises are beginning to be more aware of the need to develop a “positive corporate culture” so that they can compete for human resources and retain their employees, People Passion Consulting Limited Director Polly Cho Shut-yan told reporters during a seminar yesterday.

The Human Resources Professional Club, an entity under the Macau Management Association, held a talk yesterday at the Macau Chamber of Commerce Building in Zape. Cho was invited to share her experiences about how companies are able to retain their employees and make sure that they develop a sense of belonging to their workplace. The talk was attended by nearly 60 human resources (HR) practitioners from 22 local companies.

Cho, who has 20 years of HR management experience in Hong Kong, noted that Macau is a small city with a flourishing development and an unemployment rate of just 1.7 percent, adding that Macau’s own human resources are unable to fill all job vacancies, resulting in a competitive employment market.
