The police are investigating a case in which a teaching staff member allegedly beat a pupil in a school several times last month, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Lam, the parents of the pupil reported the case to the police on March 6, after which the police also transferred the case to the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) for follow-up action. The spokesman did not name the school and neither did he reveal the victim’s gender and age.
Portuguese-language newspaper daily Jornal Tribuna de Macau (JTM), which broke the news on Tuesday, identified the school as Colégio Diocesano de São José in Travessa dos Anjos in the city centre, which runs classes from P3 to P6. The JTM report refers to one incident in which the female Portuguese-language teacher allegedly beat the pupil during lunch time in the school when schoolchildren were lining up. According to the report, the victim is a boy.
