According to the National Development and Reform Commission’s (NDRC) official website yesterday, the commission has published a 22-page plan in Chinese for the development of Hengqin International Leisure Tourism Island.
The commission is the central government’s top planning agency.
According to Hengqin District’s official website, Hengqin covers a land area of 106.46-square kilometres. Much of the island has been reclaimed from the sea since the 1990s. Hengqin consisted of two islands in the past, Big Hengqin and Small Hengqin, known in Portuguese as Ilha da Montanha and Ilha D.João.
