The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested a 31-year-old local man who embezzled 77,000 patacas from his employer – a property management company – and gambled away some of the ill-gotten money and repaid gambling debts with the remainder, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The gambling-addicted suspect was arrested last Thursday when he was working in the office after his employer had reported the case to the police, Ho said.
According to Ho, the suspect surnamed Wong told the police that he worked as a supervisor in the company. Wong, who started to work in the company six years ago, was tasked with collecting management service fees from condominium unit owners in five residential buildings in Areia Preta district and Zape and then depositing the collected fees into the company’s bank account.
