A male illegal immigrant (II) who escaped early this week while waiting for transport to be deported to the mainland was apprehended by the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday afternoon, according to a PJ mobile message sent to the local media last night which notified reporters of a press conference this morning about the case.

After the II escaped on Monday while waiting to be taken away in a Macau Customs Service vehicle after questioning at the Public Prosecution Office (MP) in Nape, the Customs Service decided not to disclose the escape until Wednesday, when it said in a statement that it made the decision in order not to affect the manhunt for the escapee.

According to Wednesday’s statement by the Customs Service, the escapee was among six IIs who were transferred to the Public Prosecution Office for questioning on Monday afternoon. The questioning ended at around 7 p.m. While the statement on Wednesday did not mention where the six IIs come from, the Customs Service told the media later that day that all the six IIs are mainlanders and that the escapee is from Jiangxi province.
