The Macau Customs Service has launched disciplinary proceedings against “four to six” customs officers for their suspected negligence in performing their duty when a male illegal immigrant (II) escaped early last week while waiting for transport to be deported to the mainland, Macau Customs Service Director-General Alex Vong Iao Lek said yesterday.

The escapee from Jiangxi province was apprehended by the Judiciary Police (PJ) in a guestroom in a casino-hotel in Cotai last Thursday.

Vong made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Macau Public Security Forces Academy (ESFSM) in Coloane on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony for 146 new customs officers who have passed an induction training programme.
