The government said yesterday that it planned to install 980 cameras in the fifth and sixth phases of the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system and that it aimed to complete their installation by 2023.

The CCTV cameras in the fifth and sixth phases will be installed in the city’s new land reclamation zones.

Mui San Meng, an assistant to the commissioner-general of the Unitary Police Service (SPU), made the remarks when replying to an oral interpellation by indirectly-elected lawmaker-cum-unionist Lam Lon Wai during a plenary session in the legislature’s hemicycle.
