Vandy Poon Fuk Hei, CEO of local telecom operator CTM, said yesterday that the company would bring 5G technology into commercial use in the first half of 2020, at the same pace as neighbouring regions.

CTM and government-owned broadcaster TDM held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony at the CTM headquarters in Taipa, formalising their collaboration on a new media platform riding on the 5G network. It was attended by about 40 CTM and TDM representatives.

Poon announced the 5G launch schedule in a speech. He noted that the applications based on 5G technology are developing rapidly while the development and testing of 5G networks are in full swing around the world, adding that the implementation of 5G in areas such as technology education, medical care and daily life would create a 5G ecosystem in the near future, which would form an important element in building a smart city.
