A handful of activists showed up outside a polling station to protest against what they described as a “small-circle” election of 344 members of the 400-head Chief Executive Election Committee yesterday.
The protest was organised by the grassroots New Macau Association (NMA). Fewer than 10 people protested outside the entrance of the Luso-Chinese Vocational and Technical School in Areia Preta district to express their opposition to the “small-circle” election of the Chief Executive Election Commission members. The group voiced the same concern five years ago, slamming the chief executive electoral process as a “small-circle” affair.
This time 569 association had the right to nominate and elect 344 members of committee. The committee will elect Macau’s next chief executive in August.
