A retired woman has fallen victim to an online love scam in which she lost 50,000 euros (454,420 patacas at the exchange rate when the crime was committed), Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Leng said the victim is a retired local woman in her fifties who is single. Her surname was not released.

According to Leng, the victim told the police that she met a man who told her that he was a Singaporean engineer working in Turkey through an online social platform in December last year, after which they started an online relationship and stayed in touch through an app. They never met face to face, nor did they exchange photos.
