It’s potentially dangerous that some elderly living in low-lying areas are reluctant to leave home during strong storm surges and typhoons, the director of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ Mong-Há Community Centre, Louise Leong Lou Ian, said yesterday, adding that consequently there was a need to raise senior citizens’ awareness of disaster prevention and emergency evacuation.

The federation is widely known as Gung Luen, its Cantonese name.

Gung Luen held a talk for the elderly about safe living and disaster prevention skills at its Praia do Manduco Community Centre in Rua do Dr. Lourenço Pereira Marques yesterday. It was attended by about 130 seniors.
