The Court of Second Instance (TSI) has ruled that a taxi driver who punched a female passenger refusing to pay a grossly overcharged fare in 2016 will have to pay the victim 70,000 patacas in non-pecuniary damages, the Court of Final Appeal (TUI) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement did not mention the gender of the cabbie.

According to the statement, the incident happened on February 2, 2016, when the cabbie was waiting for passengers at the taxi rank outside the Lotus Flower Bridge border checkpoint in Cotai. The victim got into the defendant’s taxi, but during the journey started arguing about the fare, the statement said.
