A former employee was arrested on Monday for breaking into his former workplace using a key he had had cut from the original, and stealing over 70,000 patacas in cash from the safe, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a special press briefing yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, the owner of a stationary shop in the northern district told the police last Tuesday that someone had entered the shop after it had closed, jimmied open a safe and stole over 70,000 patacas from it.

The spokesperson said the police noticed that none of the entrances to the shop had been forced open, and looking through CCTV footage, they identified the suspect as one of the shop’s former employees, who they believed had copied the shop’s keys while working there.
