Typhoon signal No.8 was hoisted between Wednesday and yesterday for 11 and a half hours as Typhoon Wipha passed by the city without causing major damage, unlike Super Typhoon Hato did two years ago and Super Typhoon Manghut last year.

As Typhoon Wipha neared Macau on Wednesday, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted typhoon signal No.8 at 2 p.m., which was lowered to signal No. 3 at 1.30 a.m. yesterday.

It was the first hoisting of the typhoon signal No.8 this year.
