The Legislative Assembly (AL) yesterday unanimously voted in favour of the government’s request for the legislature to remove from the agenda for yesterday’s plenary session the debate of the outline of its controversial bill which proposed the transfer of 60 billion patacas from the government’s financial reserves for the setting-up of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Investment and Development Fund, as well as the debate of the outline of a government-drafted bill amending the existing cybercrime law.
The cybercrime law amendment bill proposed that the local police would be allowed to gain access to information stored by criminal suspects on cloud servers outside Macau, after obtaining permission from local judges. The amendment bill also proposed a new crime category of operating fake base stations. The bill proposed that offenders would face a prison term of up to three years.
During a special press conference on Monday, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On announced that the government had requested the legislature remove from the agenda for yesterday’s plenary session the debates of the outlines of the two bills.
