Man who killed 2 inmates gets over 10 years in jail

The Court of Final Appeal (TUI) has denied an appeal submitted by a man who was found guilty of attacking four inmates, killing two of them, while he was in prison in 1998, for which the city’s top court upheld his jail term as being 10 years and six months, a TUI statement said yesterday.

The defendant is a 54-year-old local surnamed Lei. He was sentenced to prison for five years and three months in 1998 after being caught for loan sharking, blackmail, and false imprisonment, according to previous media reports.

According to the TUI statement, while Lei was in prison, he demanded the four inmates be his “underlings” in order to expand his power behind bars. However, they all refused.
