Chief executive candidate Ho Iat Seng and his campaign team members paid a visit to Iao Hon district – where many dilapidated residential buildings are located – yesterday to familiarise themselves with the business environment of shops there and the neighbourhood’s living environment – which is widely considered poor, and during the visit he told reporters that he is determined to push ahead with Macau’s urban renewal if elected chief executive.

The visit in the morning covered an area in the neighbourhood where vendor stalls selling fruit are located, stalls in the Iao Hon Vendors’ Building and the food court there – which is situated next to the Iao Hon Municipal Market. The stalls are housed on the ground floor of the Iao Hon Vendors’ Building, which houses the food court – with various food vendor stalls – on the second and third floors.

Civic leaders have been criticising the government for failing to push ahead with urban renewal in the run-down neighbourhood.
