The Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau and Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On issued separate statements yesterday to congratulate Ho Iat Seng on winning the chief executive election with 98 percent of the votes cast.
According to the Liaison Office’s statement, the current government and the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election smoothly and successfully organised yesterday’s election, demonstrating the principles of fairness, justice and openness.
“The community and the majority of Macau citizens resolutely protect the Macau Basic Law and the [Chief Executive] Election Law, and actively participated in the chief executive election as well as exercised their democratic rights in accordance with the law, which thoroughly shows that they have expectations for the new Chief Executive and the new government’s policy implementation,” the statement said, adding that all this displayed Macau citizens’ good tradition of “loving the country and loving Macau”, and cooperating to seek development.
Moreover, also this also showed the successful practice of the full implementation of the “One country, Two systems” principle, “Macau people governing Macau”, and Macau’s “high degree of autonomy”, the statement underlined.
