A drunk male motorcyclist skidded and fell near the Ponte 16 casino-hotel in the Inner Harbour area in the early hours of Wednesday, and then slept on the street for two hours before being discovered by a passer-by who reported the case to the police, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The police received a report at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday about an incident that appeared to be a traffic accident in Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos. When PSP officers arrived at the scene, they saw a fallen motorcycle, while the rider, surnamed Long, who is in his twenties and sustained abrasions to his legs, was sleeping on the street, according to the spokesperson, who said that the motorcyclist did not wake up even after the officers had repeatedly tried to awaken him.
According to the spokesperson, Long was taken to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital for treatment. After Long woke up at the hospital, the police carried out a breathalyser test. Long failed the breathalyser which showed that his alcohol concentration was 2.14 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
