The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a mainland man on Sunday for cheating a fellow mainlander by claiming he was a former member of the management staff of the local wholesale market who could arrange for the victim to be put on a priority list to buy a stall in a future wholesale market in Ilha Verde, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lun said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the 38-year-old suspect is surnamed Zhou. He told the police that he is unemployed. The personal information of the victim such as the gender was not released.

According to Leng, the victim was introduced to Zhou by a friend in 2016. Zhou told the victim that he knew how to get the victim on a priority list for selecting and purchasing a stall in the new wholesale market to open in 2018. Zhou convinced the victim to invest with him and another man, after which the trio set up a fresh vegetable wholesale company.
