Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) official Carol Duh Chia-fen, who heads the council’s Department of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, said on Tuesday that “placemaking” could be good for Macau to enhance its cultural industry that gets the community involved.
Duh made the comments during a lunch meeting in Taipei with the Macau media who were invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Macau for a five-day familiarisation trip to Matsu and Taipei that wrapped up yesterday.
Duh said Taiwan’s government has this year launched a “placemaking” programme that encourages young people to return to their hometown and turn their hometown’s culture and uniqueness into an industry that could provide start-ups and job opportunities for the community.
