More people seem to be taking an interest in Cantonese opera, but without training from professional masters and assessments, enthusiasts fear that the authenticity of the traditional art form will gradually fade, and eventually lose its cultural appeal.

Caritas Women Centre representatives Chan Wai Peng made Cantonese opera the main performance for Caritas Macau’s charity night 19 years ago when she urged families to buy tickets to see a Cantonese opera performance and then have dinner as a way to raise funds to support the charitable association’s services.

One of the services that Caritas Macau introduced 19 years ago was the rehabilitation bus that provides a shuttle service for the elderly going to hospitals for check-ups, as well as taking them to join activities and meet friends.
