The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man last week for defrauding a mainlander out of 850,000 yuan (943,600 patacas), claiming that he had a money exchange scheme with a one-percent return on investment (ROI) per day, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the suspect is a 33-year-old mainlander surnamed He, who told the police that he is unemployed. His accomplice is also a mainlander, who was still at large at the time of the press conference yesterday afternoon. His personal information was not released. The victim is also from the mainland and told the police that he is currently unemployed.

On August 23, the victim met He and his accomplice in a local hotel lobby. The suspect and his accomplice told the victim that they could offer him an attractive money exchange scheme in a casino’s VIP room, which would provide a one-percent return on investment (ROI) per day, the spokesman said.
