In a statement jointly issued by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) yesterday, MGTO said that “it is not illegal” for travel companies to arrange for members of tour groups to stay at campsites, adding that camping “is also a kind of tourism experience”.
In the statement, the Municipal Affairs Bureau said that its inspectors did not find any violations by those staying at the campsite in Hác Sá Beach Park during the mainland’s seven-day National Day Golden Week holiday period. The bureau oversees the city’s parks and recreational areas.
Yesterday’s statement came after recent local media reports, according to which a large number of tour groups from the mainland chose to stay at the Hác Sá Beach campsite during the seven-day holiday period.
