The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 97 items of fake branded goods in three cases last month – jewellery from a pawnshop in the city centre, watches from the Lotus Flower Bridge border checkpoint in Cotai, and cosmetics from the Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) respectively.

The three cases were busted during an intellectual property protection law enforcement operation jointly carried out by the customs administrations of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau between October 14 and 27, the statement said, adding that last month’s trilateral operation was the third of its kind this year.

Under the two-week-long joint operation last month, the Macau Customs Service dispatched officers to inspect shops in the city and strengthened its inspections at the city’s border checkpoints, with the aim of combating the importing and smuggling of counterfeit goods and their sale here, the statement said.
