The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested a man from the Republic of Mongolia for attacking his girlfriend, lifting her up and throwing her into the sea from a footbridge at the waterfront outside the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) complex in Nape in 2005, after they had had a heated argument over their relationship and the victim demanded that the man return US$3,000 he had borrowed from her, during their visit to Macau at that time, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a special press conference on Saturday.
The victim, also a Mongolian, was rescued by customs officers from the sea shortly afterwards and rushed to hospital. The woman, who sustained slight injuries, was discharged later that day after treatment.
The suspect went to the Chinese mainland shortly after the attack in late January 2005. He was arrested on Friday morning when he entered Macau via the Barrier Gate border checkpoint.
