The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers have found a local woman attempting to smuggle 24 bottles of spirits in her car into Macau via the Barrier Gate border checkpoint, exceeding the official maximum amount of spirits that a person is permitted to bring into the city.
On Saturday, customs officers checked a car with a dual Macau-mainland registration plate driven by the 40-year-old woman returning to Macau via the Barrier Gate checkpoint, when they found 24 bottles of spirits totalling 12 litres, the statement said.
According to the statement, the woman, who failed to show a valid document declaring the import of the spirits, told the customs officers that the spirits that she had bought from the mainland were for her own consumption.
