An incident-filled Suncity Group 53rd Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix final on Saturday initially appeared to have ended with no winners due to two red flags and the race being abandoned after the second red flag was shown after six riders were involved in a multi-bike pile up – although it was later announced that Macau King Michael Rutter had been given the race and a momentous ninth win.
In the first lap Portuguese rider André Pires crashed at the Melco Hairpin and re-joined the race but retired at the Melco Exit.
The race was stopped in the second lap after the start due to Britain’s Rob Hudson and the Czech Republic’s Marek Červený crashing at Solitude “Esses” (Faraway), with Britain’s Peter Hickman leading followed by compatriot and team mate Rutter and Australian David Johnson in second and third place respectively.
