The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers cracked a case of dried seafood smuggling at the Barrier Gate land-border checkpoint on Tuesday, seizing 62 kilogrammes of unquarantined dried seafood from the mainland.

According to the statement, when a local dual-plate vehicle was entering Macau through the checkpoint, the Customs Service’s risk management system informed the officers that the vehicle required a “comprehensive inspection”.

The customs officers then inspected the vehicle and found a total of 62 kilogrammes of dried seafood including dried oysters, dried fish maw, dried fish and dried whelk slices on the vehicle’s rear seats and in the boot, the statement noted.
