The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a businessman from the mainland on Sunday for stealing a wallet – which contained HK$17,000 in cash – from a local man in a food court in a casino-hotel resort in Cotai on the previous day, PSP spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lam identified the suspect as a 39-year-old surnamed Hu who told the police that he is a businessman. The police found the victim’s wallet on the suspect when he was arrested.

The victim reported to the police shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday that he had discovered at around 11:30 p.m. on the previous day that his wallet had been stolen when he was in the food court, according to Lam, who did not mention where the victim had put his wallet before it was stolen. The victim told the police that his wallet had contained HK$17,000 in cash when it was stolen.
