The Special One, Billy, Lotus Maverick, Coitada, Houdino, Lucky, Haahng Wahn Ngauh (“Lucky Cow” in Cantonese), Mac Cow, The Green island Matador, Ox McQueen, Bobo No. 2 (Bobo was the name of Macau’s world-famous bear that was rescued from the cooking pots of a gourmet eatery in the 1980s and passed away last year), Apolo, Rambo, Manhoso, Clever One and Rascal are the names that we received yesterday from readers for the brown bovine that made a spectacular dash for freedom on Wednesday morning from the slaughterhouse in Ilha Verde. The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has promised to spare the ox the all-too-common fate of his bovine brethren and to prepare a proper stable for public display, considering that many locals have quite probably never seen a “real” cow. So far, Lucky is by far the most popular name sent in by our readers. Some of the suggestions arrived from Portugal, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Please email your suggestions for a name for the newest member of our animal community – and Macau’s one-and-only bovine resident – to info@macaupostdaily.com or leave your suggestion in the comments section on our Facebook page until Monday.
