The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a local man last week for stealing 108 bottles of luxury Kweichow Moutai liquor worth 1.3 million patacas between July and August which a female co-owner of a travel agency had stored on the company premises where he worked and sold them for just 230,000 patacas, less than one-fifth of their retail price, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a special press conference last week.

The bottles of Moutai were sepaately packed in boxes. The suspect removed the bottles from the boxes when he stole them and later replaced them with bottles of Vita distilled water, to prevent the victim from discovering that her bottles of Moutai had vanished, according to Chan, who said that the suspect gambled away all the ill-gotten money.

The victim only discovered that her bottles of Moutai had been stolen when she intended to entertain guests at the company and give them the luxury beverage to drink, according to Chan.
