The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a man who was found to be an illegal immigrant (II) on Saturday during a regular personal identification check in Taipa and then allegedly offered the officers a HK$1,000 bribe, PSP spokesman Choi Iok Kin said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Choi, the incident happened in Rua do Pai Kok. The suspect surnamed Wang is about 30 years old. No other personal information about the suspect was released by the police.

Choi said that at about 2 p.m. on Sunday evening two PSP officers patrolling near a sitting-out area in Rua do Pai Kok spotted Wang, who was acting suspiciously. The two officers stopped him to ask for his identity documents, which Wang was unable to present so he tried to give the two officers a HK$1,000 banknote and asked them to let him go. The officers refused the proffered cash.
