President Xi Jinping said yesterday that the central government will “fully support” the work of Ho Iat Seng, the fifth-term chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the new MSAR government.
Xi made the remarks during his meeting with Ho just after the latter had been sworn in by the president.
“The central government has high levels of trust in you, while Macau residents have high expectations of you,” Xi said.
The president said he hopes that the MSAR government, led by Ho, will fully and accurately implement the principle of “One Country, Two Systems,” strictly abide by the national Constitution and the MSAR Basic Law and continuously advance economic development, people’s wellbeing and social harmony.
Macau should also actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), Xi said.
