Ho Iat Seng, who was sworn in yesterday morning as the fifth-term chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), said the new government will continue to fully and accurately implement the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.

Adopting the policy of concerted efforts, reform and innovation, the new MSAR government will continue to fully and accurately implement “One Country, Two Systems,” strictly follow the Constitution and the Basic Law, conscientiously safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and show greater courage and innovative ability to advance Macau’s economic and social development, Ho said in his inaugural address.

Macau will earnestly review the successful experience of “One Country, Two Systems” and carry forward its practice with Macau characteristics, Ho said.

The new MSAR government will step up public administrative reform, consolidate the constitutional order based on the Constitution and the Basic Law, and improve the governance system and capability, he said.

Macau will advance industries such as conventions and exhibitions, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), cultural creation, and hi-tech industries.

It will also seize opportunities brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and make its economy appropriately diverse.

“I believe the future of Macau will be even better and the cause of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ will be even more splendid,” he said.

On behalf of the government and local residents, Ho extended his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all the guests who attended the inauguration ceremony held at the Macau East Asian Games Dome, stressing that “the great motherland has always been Macau’s strong supporter.” – Xinhua
