The Macau government has arranged a 4-star hotel as a quarantine facility for tourists from Hubei province.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre last night, the measure took effect today when the 26 tourists from Hubei (13 males and 13 females) at a quarantine facility set up in a youth hostel at Hac Sa Beach in Coloane are gradually being moved to the hotel. The statement noted that the hostel had reached its accommodation limit for four- and two-bed rooms. The statement also pointed out that the last guests of the Pousada Marina Infante hotel checked out yesterday and that police offers will be stationed at the hotel. The Health Bureau (SSM) has briefed the hotel staff on the measures, according to the statement.
According to its website, the waterfront Pousada Marina Infante is 312-guestroom 4-star hotel. Tourism industry sources told The Macau Post Daily today that the hotel has been poplar with tourists from the mainland. It is located on the edge of Macau's Cotai gaming precinct. The statement underlined that no residential buildings are near the hotel, "thereby minimizing the impact on society." Cotai is a land reclamation area between Macau's Taipa and Coloane islands.
The government announced last week that Hubei tourists in Macau have either to leave the special administrative region or move into quarantine facilities for a fortnight instead.
Macau has confirmed seven novel coronavirus cases. All of the patients are tourists from Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province.
