Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said in a statement today that an illegal immigrants from the Chinese mainland who escaped from the public hospital yesterday while he was in isolation as a suspected novel coronavirus patient has tested negative for the deadly virus.
The 44-year old man entered Macau illegally. When he was caught by the police he was having a fever, runny nose, score throat and cough. He told the police that he had been in Wuhan between January 20-24. After his detention he was taken to the special emergency ward of the Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre for tests that turned out to be negative.
According to the statement, the fugitive escaped from the hospital during a doctor's visit. The police have launched a manhunt for him.
Illegal immigrants are routinely deported and barred from entering Macau for a period of time.
