SJM has donated 20 million patacas to aid novel coronavirus control and relief efforts in Hubei province, including purchasing medical supplies and protective equipment.

The donation was made incoordination with the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau.

Quoting SJM Chairman of the Board of Directors Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, the statement released today said that the company stands firmly with the Macau government and all Macau people in efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

“We wish a speedy recovery to all people and all economies that are affected by the virus,” Ho said.

The statement said that with the health and safety of customers and employees its primary concern, SJM has been maintaining close communication with relevant government departments and rolling out preventive measures in strict adherence of government guidelines, and remaining united with the community in controlling the virus.

SJM is the third of Macau’s six gaming operators to support the ongoing fight against the virus by donating money to the cause.

Melco said in a statement last week that it donated HK$20 million for the same cause to Hubei province and its hard-hit capital city Wuhan. Galaxy announced on Sunday that it has donatedHK$20 million to Hubei province and an additional HK$5 million to the local community to assist in the battle against the virus

Macau’s 41 casinos owned by the six operators have been closed since today by government order for at least 15 days as part of the authorities' measures to prevent the virus from spreading locally.  The measure was formalised by an executive order signed by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
