Sands China said in a statement today that it has pledged to donate 25 million patacas to help contain the spread of the novel coronavirus and assist with relief efforts in mainland China and Macau.
According to the statement, the donation includes 20 million patacas–made in coordination with the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau – to assist the mainland in its efforts to combat the virus, and another five million patacas to support the local community in implementing preventive measures.
The statement quoted Las Vegas Sands and Sands China Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson as saying, “Las Vegas Sands has always considered it an honour to do business in Macau, while at the same time recognising and embracing our important role as a community partner, especially in challenging times such as these.”
“We strongly support Macau and mainland China in their efforts to contain the coronavirus and protect their citizens,” Adelson said, “It’s been our experience that people in Macau and mainland China are strong and resilient and those traits will undoubtedly be needed in the days to come. We will certainly do everything we can to help return things to normal as quickly aspossible.”
The statement also quoted Sands China President Wilfred Wong as saying that it was the company’s responsibility to provide financial resources in support of the central and Macau governments’ effort to fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak, adding that he hopes the donation would help ensure that assistance is given to those in need.
