The display of 74 bronze sculptures of horses, ballet dancers and bathing women – all in different positions – shows just how fascinated French impressionist Edgar Degas (1834-1917) was with movement.

The sculptures were never meant for public display as Degas created them to serve as models for his paintings. He had never considered his sculptures as works of art, but they have now become a significant part of his work, and the whole collection from M. T. Abraham Foundation is now on display in Macau, a first for Asia.

The exhibition “Edgar Degas – Figures in Motion” at MGM Art Space begins by introducing visitors to Degas’ fascination with horses, when he spent lots of time in the hippodrome at the time to observe their different movements, which are depicted in the statuettes.
