US gaming operator Wynn Macau Limited donated today 1 million facemasks to the local government.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, Linda Chen Chih-ling, the casino firm's vice-chairman and executive director, handed the donation to Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U, who expressed the government's gratitude for the facemasks.
The statement pointed out that the donation aids the government's ongoing effort to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. The government has received a raft of pecuniary and non-pecuniary donations from individuals and enterprises - including gaming operators - in support of its anti-COVID-19 measures. Wynn owns two of Macau's 41 casinos.
All casinos have been closed temporarily by government order for at least 15 days since February 5 in an attempt to lower the risk COVID-19 infection. The government declined to say today when the casinos will be allowed to reopen for business.
