Macau visitors' per-capita spending drops 16.5 pct last year

Visitors' per-capita spending excluding gambling expenditure fell 16.5 percent year-on-year to 1,626 patacas (US$203) last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced. 

According to a DSEC statement on Wednesday, overnight  visitors' per-capita spending fell 11.8 percent top 2,681 patacas (US$335), while same-day visitors' spending dropped12.5 percent to 680 patacas. 

Mainland visitors' per-capita spending decreased 18.2 percent to 1,834 patacas. Per-capita spending by Hong Kong visitors (954 patacas) and Taiwan (1,377 patacas) visitors dropped 9.5 percent and 14.6 percent respectively. 

South Koreans' per-capita spending rose 14.0 percent to 1,731 patacas. South Koreans are Macau's number-one foreign visitor segment.

Visitors' per-capita shopping spending fell 19.0 percent to 743 patacas. Visitors spent an average of 422 patacas on accommodation and 332 patacas on food and drinks, a decline of 15.3 percent and 14.7 percent respectively. 

According to the statement, 88.8 percent of visitors expressed satisfaction with hotel services, while 75.5 percent said they were satisfied with the city's public transport services. 

Macau recorded 39.4 million visitor arrivals last year, up by 10.1 percent year-on-year.
