A Filipino is in critical condition suffering from multiple fractures and a brain bleed after being ganged up on by three of his compatriots last month, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a press conference yesterday.

According to a PJ spokesperson, three Filipinos have been arrested for the incident that happened in the early hours of February 22 in Rua da Alfândega.

The spokesperson said that the Public Security Police (PSP) informed the Judiciary Police last Wednesday that a Filipino in his 20s had been beaten up by three fellow Filipinos after they got into an argument at the junction of Rua da Alfândega and Rua do Gamboa in the early hours of February 22.

According to the spokesperson, while the three Filipinos left the scene of the scuffle, a passer-by called the police, who arrived at the scene and took the badly injured man to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre, where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures all over his body and a brain haemorrhage, leaving him in critical condition.

The spokesperson said that based on CCTV footage, the police arrested three Filipinos – a 33-year-old surnamed Goluya facing a charge of aggravated assault, a 28-year-old surnamed Esteban and a 28-year-old surnamed Delos, both facing assault charges.

The case has meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
