Lawmakers yesterday criticised the draft of the government’s first ever Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020) for its perceived lack of content.

A special session was held at the legislature where Policy Research Centre Director Lao Pun Lap, along with Lei Ngan Leng, who is an advisor to the office of Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, and Ung Hoi Ian, the vice-director of the Policy Research Office, briefed legislators on the plan and gave lawmakers the opportunity to raise suggestions.

The government last month announced details of the plan’s draft version which aims to lay down a blueprint for how the city can achieve its double aim of becoming a world centre of tourism and leisure, and a trade and economic co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (collectively known as “centre and platform” policies).
