The government should help around 40 mainlanders, who worked as decorators on the deluxe residential project Star River-Windsor Arch in Taipa, claim their wages allegedly owed by their employer Victory Real Estate Development Company Limited from January to last month, Macau Construction Employees General Union President Cheong Man Fun said yesterday.

The union is an affiliate of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, commonly known as Gung Luen. Cheong and legislator Ella Lei Cheng I, a vice-president of the federation, talked about the case during a press conference at a Gung Luen office in Estrada Marginal do Hipodromo, with around a dozen of the decorators also present.

A company spokeswoman told The Macau Post Daily on the phone yesterday she was unable to comment on the matter, adding that none of her “relevant colleagues” were available. She refused to give their contacts.
