Macau's gross gaming revenue fell 79.7 percent year-on-year last month to 5.25 billion patacas, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) announced today.
According to a DICJ statement, last month's revenue rose 69.3 percent month-on-month.
Macau's casinos were closed by government order for 15 days in February as one of the authorities' anti-COVID-19 measures.
Revenue dropped 60.0 percent to 30.48 billion patacas in the first quarter.
The government has imposed increasingly stricter entry restrictions since February to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus. A dozen hotels have been converted into quarantine facilities, among them the Sheraton Grand in Cotai. The government's COVID-19 prevention and control measures have brought Macau's tourism to a virtual halt.
According to DICJ data, Macau has 41 casinos, two of which have not been in operation for some time, with 6,739 gaming tables and 17,009 slot machines.
